Frequently asked questions

The basics

Booking, cancelling, what to bring — these apply wherever you are.

How do I book a class?

Create an account, buy the credits you want at the studio you want, then choose your class and time on the schedule. Pick your spot and book — you will get an email confirming it.

Do you offer a trial class?

Yes. New members start with 3 classes from £25. Create an account, buy the intro offer on the pricing page, then book any classes that suit you.

When should I arrive?

Ten minutes before your class starts. That gives you time to check in, put your things away and meet your instructor.

Any earlier and a class may still be running with the doors locked. Classes start promptly — the safety briefing and warm-up begin straight away, which is why we cannot let anyone in late.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancel more than 12 hours before your class, through the app or the website, and there is no charge.

Inside 12 hours the class is charged for. See our terms for exactly how that is applied.

What should I bring?

Something you can move in, and water.

Grip socks are required for all reformer classes. If you do not own a pair, you can buy them at the studio for £20 or with reward points. Socks are required for barre, and towels for all hot classes — those can be bought or hired on site for £1.

Is there an age limit?

Sixteen for standard reformer classes. Dynamic and Bounce are eighteen and over.

I am not fit. Will I be able to do it?

Yes. A basic level of fitness helps but is not needed, and this is the class people come to after years of not training.

The resistance is set by the springs, so the same exercise can be gentle or hard depending on how your machine is set up — and yours is set up for you.

Can I come if I am pregnant or recently gave birth?

Embrace is our dedicated pre and post natal class, on both reformer and tower.

Foundations and Signature are also suitable, but tell the instructor you are pregnant before class starts. We do not recommend Dynamic, Bounce or Barre, which are too intense for pre or post natal.

I have an injury. Should I still come?

Usually yes, and reformer is often recommended for exactly that reason — but tell your instructor before class, not during. If you are under the care of a physio, check with them first.

What if I am running late?

We cannot admit anyone once class has started. The safety briefing and warm-up happen in the first few minutes, and going onto a reformer without them is not safe.

If you are not going to make it, cancel as early as you can.

Do you offer a student discount?

Yes, verified through Student Beans. See our student discount page for how to claim it.

Reformer

Do I need to have done pilates before?

Foundations is built for complete beginners and covers the fundamentals of the reformer — how the carriage moves, what the springs do, and how to set yourself up safely. Signature suits you once you have some pilates or general fitness experience.

Every class has beginners in it, and the instructor sets each person up individually, so you will not be the only new face in the room.

What actually is a reformer?

A sprung carriage that slides along a frame, with straps and a footbar. Resistance comes from changing the spring tension rather than from a stack of weights, so the load is adjusted for the person on the machine.

It re-aligns, reshapes and strengthens the whole body, and improves the mobility and stability of your joints.

How is the resistance set for me?

Spring by spring, on your own carriage. Your instructor will tell you which springs to use for each exercise and adjust them with you as the class goes on.

This is why a first-timer and someone ten years in can work side by side in the same class, each at their own load.

Which reformer class should I book first?

Foundations if you are new to the reformer. Signature if you have some pilates or fitness experience and want a balanced full-body class.

Dynamic Fitness, Dynamic Tempo and Strength are general-level classes — you can take them at any point, but we would encourage starting with Foundations or Signature so the basics are in place first.

Are reformer classes suitable in pregnancy?

It depends on the class. Embrace Reformer is our dedicated pre and post natal class and is suitable at all stages of pregnancy, whether or not you have used a reformer before. Foundations is also suitable.

Signature welcomes pre and post natal clients who have previous reformer experience; if you are new to reformer and pregnant, start with Foundations or book a 1:1 modifications session.

Dynamic Fitness, Dynamic Tempo, Strength and Bounce are not suitable in pregnancy. Always tell your instructor before class starts.

What is the difference between Dynamic Fitness and Dynamic Tempo?

Dynamic Fitness is fast-paced and full-body: higher repetitions, targeted muscle work and an energising cardio finisher.

Dynamic Tempo is music-led, where the rhythm drives the movement — each section builds energy and keeps you flowing to the beat while building strength and stability.

Both are general-level and neither is suitable in pregnancy.

Do I need grip socks?

Yes — grip socks are required for all reformer classes. If you forget yours, we sell them at reception for £20, or you can use your R|C reward points.

Community

Do I need to be a member to join Run Club?

Run Club is free to book and open to all abilities. It runs weekly from the Lansdowne Place studio in Hove, with R|C and ROX.

How far do you run?

Between 3 and 7km, depending on the session. There are sessions for building a base and sessions for chasing a personal best.

Every session blends running with strength work, and covers form, breathing and stride. No one gets left behind.

What should I bring to Run Club?

Running shoes and something comfortable to run in. Sessions start and finish at the Lansdowne Place studio in Hove, so you can leave your things there.

At the studios

Facilities differ by studio. Each studio page lists exactly what is there.

What facilities are there at Piccadilly?

How do I check which studio my class is at?

You can find your studio location in your booking confirmation. You can also check the class details on our website, where you’ll find a map and directions to the correct studio.

Always check your booking before heading to class to make sure you’re going to the right location.

Is there a right way to do contrast therapy?

There is no single right way. The team can talk you through the protocols we recommend, whether you are after recovery, immune support or simply somewhere quiet to sit.

What should I bring to Recovery Room?
